The symposium Untangling Design Purpose is poised to delve profoundly into the core essence of design today, all in pursuit of answering fundamental questions. Where Cartography Meets Industry brings together leading organisations, the International Map Industry Association (IMIA), the British Cartographic Society (BCS), the International Cartographic Association (ICA), and the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) to share current perspectives and envision the developing future of cartography and the mapping industry. Advancing our vital discussion of geo-ethics, this panel will examine how to build trust in various aspects of cartography and mapping business.
The theme of Publicness and Places delves into the dynamics of public spaces and their significance in our urban environment. During this seminar, we will explore various aspects of publicness and places in different parts the world. Renelle Sarjeant will be exploring the realities and complexities of the institutional an dthe everyday domains and how these cross and serve each other; Dr. Joseph Chambers will be focus on the uses of private and public space and how these may differ, and Dr. Juhyun Lee will focus on the smart city and its social transitions.
The rich line-up of frontier urban topics will include new research and case studies, and new tools and strategies for public space, placemaking, urban resilience, zoning code reform, street and transportation reform, affordability and diversity, aesthetics and liveability, and liveable cities and towns for ALL.
