$25K grants available!

Bloomberg Philanthropies recently announced that their Asphalt Art Initiative is expanding in Europe, providing as many as 20 cities with $25,000 grants for visual art projects on roadways, pedestrian spaces, and public infrastructure. The European expansion builds upon two rounds of previous Asphalt Art Initiative grants made in 2020-2021, supporting 42 projects in U.S. cities, and pilot projects in three European cities (Amsterdam, Glasgow and London).

The Asphalt Art Initiative grants are designed to fund visual art interventions with the goals of:

  • Improving street and pedestrian safety
  • Revitalising and activating underutilised public space
  • Promoting collaboration and civic engagement in local communities

The expansion of the initiative invites all European cities with a population of 100,000 or more to apply for a grant by 11 July, 2022. Winning cities will be announced in autumn 2022, with selected projects planned for installation throughout 2023.

Application and city selection guidelines. In addition, a virtual information session covering the application process for an Asphalt Art grant in Europe takes place at 2pm (BST) this Thursday 16 June, 2022 – apply to attend the session.
