New interactive map provides accessibility information for Britain’s railway stations
As part of their Inclusive Transport Strategy, the British rail industry has launched a new ‘Active Map‘ which will help passengers, including those with disabilities, find out about station accessibility.
The interactive map is compatible with accessible features on iPhone, Android and desktop computers, including those for visually-impaired people. It is also being developed as an app, which will be released later on this year and make it even easier to use on the go.
This innovation is the latest in a series of augmented reality wayfinding solutions (including the internationally approved accessible audio-navigation standard work done by Wayfindr which was subject of the February 2019 SDS seminar) specifically designed to facilitate independent travel by people with disabilities.
