Signage and Wayfinding Technical Designer, Cobal (UK)

At Cobal we’re growing fast and are seeking a talented full-time Technical Designer, with a passion for product and manufacturing within a signage and wayfinding context, to help people navigate and connect with their environments.

The role

The role is centred around the design of the technical aspects of signage production, wayfinding products and placemaking elements, working across multiple projects, but with the time and space to ideate and craft beautiful and functional solutions.

Working alongside the Design and Production teams, you will be taking a leading role in the specification of products, creating 2D & 3D drawings and models to enable manufacture.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of interesting and complex projects within a rewarding environment that nurtures both personal and professional growth.

The role involves national travel.

Skills and experience

You’ll embrace the company culture and appreciate good design and innovation. This role requires excellent 2D design & 3D modelling skills, along with a broad knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques.


  • Creativity: Relevant, practical design experience, you will be skilled in developing products and working with designers and manufacturing teams;
  • Creativity: Able to understand the built environment and translate information gathered on-site or in design packs into solutions.
  • Innovation/Tech: Proactively research current and future design and technology trends relevant to the industry;
  • Innovation/Tech: A practical and thorough understanding of 3D modelling;
  • Excellence: Accomplished at producing accurate technical drawings to BS8888:1;
  • Excellence: A strong understanding of material selection, finish specifications, and an awareness of industry standards;
  • Excellence: Meticulous, thorough and strong attention to detail;
  • Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Teamwork: Willing and able to adapt your communication style to the audience, and demonstrable learning agility;
  • Communication: Immaculate verbal and written communication and presentation skills. With a very high
    attention for the details of good English and grammar;
  • Communication: Excellent drawing composition and layout skills;

  • The ability to read architectural plans and elevations;
  • Experience in the sign design or related industry;
  • Typography, graphic design and photo-visualisation skills.

Experience in using the following software

  • 3D CAD Software (preferably Autodesk Inventor and Revit) 3D visualisation / rendering software (ideally KeyShot) is a strong advantage;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop;
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Qualifications and experience

  • A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or other related equivalent degree; but we would consider candidates with real-life experience;
  • Demonstrable design talent, and an outstanding portfolio of professional design experience.
