Save the date: 12th June 2018 SDS on Tour in Birmingham
The Sign Design Society is heading to Birmingham on Tuesday, 12th June 2018.
The SDS on Tour in Birmingham event promises a mix of academic and practice-based talks, a graphic design exhibition, Birmingham City University architecture and graphic communication graduate degree shows and a short city signage tour.
NB If you’re looking to recruit a new graduate, there will also be an opportunity to meet and interview graduates. If interested please let us know in advance at enquiries@signdesignsociety.co.uk so that we make the necessary arrangements.
The preliminary schedule is as follows:
4pm-6pm – Tour of Birmingham City University architecture and graphic communication degree shows / Parkside Gallery graphic design exhibition curated by designer Malcolm Garrett.
4pm-5pm – Graduate portfolio/interview session.
6pm-7.30pm Three talks on sign design topics: sensory wayfinding, smellscapes & soundscapes (Dr Jieling Xiao, an architect), documenting historical signs before they disappear (Geraldine Marshall, a typographer) and we hope City ID will give insights on designing Interconnect, the city wayfinding system in Birmingham.
7.45pm-8.15pm Short city tour to Birmingham Grand Central Station via signs of interest.
The event will be based at Parkside Building, Birmingham City University, 5 Cardigan Street, Birmingham B4 7BD. The venue is a ten minute walk from Grand Central Station and five minutes from Moor Street Station.
